Anthony will be teaching at Camp Fearless at Camp Powhatan. The 3-day camp on film fight skills will feature swordplay, whip cracking, gun work, knife fighting, aikido, karate, kung fu and break falls. Camp Powhatan is part of the Blue Ridge Mountains Scout Reservation in Pulaski County. The camp will include instruction, meals and lodging in the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains. Anthony recently returned from Shanghai, China, where he was filming Jet Li's upcoming feature FEARLESS. In the film, Anthony portrays a Spanish sabre fencer who squares off against Jet Li and his Chinese gim in a tournament of champions. Shot in Mandarin at the same studio as KUNG FU HUSTLE, the film should be released in China in February 2006 and have an international release in March or April.
Anthony writes in his journal: "My action scenes went GREAT with Jet Li. They were very pleased by my skill set as both an actor and action artist. Thanks to my training and experience, I was able to remember and perform long action sequences that we made up literally on the spot. This allowed them to shoot extended action phrases intact without having to stop and intercut to make them work. There was no rehearsal other than a slow walk through of the improvised choreography with Jet before going for it all out and at full speed for the camera. And Jet Li at full speed is really something to behold and even more exhilarating to partner. As I said, Jet performs at supersonic speeds and both he and Yuen Woo Ping were pleased I could work at his pace. I took less than two days to complete our fight action. They were behind schedule and I saved the production three days of filming time, never a bad reputation to have when you want to work with someone again. Everyone says that my sequences will really stand out in the final tournament sequence."
This yer's Cold Steel Challenge will take place again at Seaside Park in Ventura, CA. It features knife and sword fighting tournaments, and throwing contests with knives, tomahawks, bad axe, torpedo, samburu spear and Special Forces shovel. In addition, the entire Cold Steel product line will be on sale at great prices.
Last year's Cold Steel Challenge was quite a spectacular event, with the maximum number of competitors in every event. Anthony took first place in the tomahawk throwing event and third place in the knife throwing event this year after doing demonstrations on Saturday and Sunday.
Saturday's sword demonstration featured Anthony and assistant Jason Heck fighting it out with sabers. Their blinding speed and skilled footwork left many of the swordfighting competitors in awe. Sunday's whip demonstration was no less stunning. After performing the fluid and balletic Toowomba bullwhip tango with his wife, Mary, Anthony demonstrated the brutal force of the bullwhip as a weapon. Due to the response to the demonstration, Palpable Hit Productions is in pre-production on a combative whip video for release in 2007.
If you have been watching the mini-series Into The West, you might have heard a familiar sound and seen a familiar figure. For Episode #4, "Hell on Wheels," Anthony was called upon by coordinator Tony Boggs to portray the whip-cracking Sargeant Major responsible for disciplining a military deserter from General Custer's troops.
Anthony's sensitivity and precision whip-cracking allowed him to just gently brush the actor's skin with each crack. This allowed the actor to react in time with the action, rather than having to rely upon sound and other external cues. As a result, the safety factors are hidden from the perception of the audience, making the scene more believable.
Cold Steel Knives in Ventura, CA has released Fighting With Saber and Cutlass, featuring Anthony De Longis and Lynn Thompson teaching the self-defense use of saber and cutlass. It illustrates how to properly oppose and opponent with a weapon that is similar to yours, then progresses on to infighting, grappling, and brawling with a saber in a combat situation.
This is a straighforward, serious training video for combative use of the weapon, and is not for theatrical training purposes. It is a step-by-step training program for the martial artist and non-martial artist alike, and should only be practiced with appropriate protective gear, including jackets, gloves and masks.

If you have seen a dramatic whip unrolling and cracking in the trailer for the upcoming film The Legend of Zorro, Anthony is the hand at the end of that whip. Anthony was recently called in to assist in filming the trailer by performing some dramatic whip cracking, including a figure that actually forms a Z in the air.
Anthony trained Antonio Banderas' very talented stunt double Theo Kypri to perform with a bullwhip prior to his work on the film. We look forward to seeing "The Fox" righting wrongs and protecting the underdog on the silver screen this year.
The feature film Secondhand Lions is now for home DVD sale. Anthony worked as Sword Master on the movie, which stars Robert Duvall, Michael Caine,Haley Joel Osment and Christian Kane. Anthony also found himself in front of the camera on occasion as a fight performer.
The film is centered around a young boy who is left to spend a summer with his two mysterious bachelor great-uncles - with pasts too fantastic to be believed. Their story of adventure, heroism, true love and honor - told in Technicolor-like flashbacks - creates an atmosphere that changes all their lives forever.
