Whipsnakes comes a'cracking Anthony and whip Anthony and the town Whipsnake & whip

Starting with their first appearance in 1993, The Australian Light Horsemen have performed for 7 of the last 8 years in the Single Action Shooting Society's annual End of Trail Wild West Show. Anthony De Longis and Colin Dangaard, owner of the Australian Stock Saddle Company, always make a grand entrance with Anthony "Whipsnake" doing some fancy whipcracking on horseback.

Anthony draws sabre Colin prepares to attack Anthony Anthony parries Colin's head cut Anthony ducks the cut

As the Australian Light Horsemen, Anthony and Colin demonstrate their prowess with the sword. Their mounted cavalry sabre drills, which are never quite the same twice, are great crowd-pleasers.

After the sabre drills, Anthony charges at the target (a cabbage) and slices it with his sabre, demonstrating what the blade is capable of doing. At the show's end, Anthony and Colin jump their horses before saluting the audience.

The Ground Whip Show

Anthony picks Mary from the crowd another target bites the dust Anthony cracks target in Mary's mouth.

An addition to this year's End of Trail show was the ground whip act performed with partner Mary Gallien. "Whipsnake" finds himself a "sheila" with some whips and flowers in the town and pulls her out to do some target cutting, including cutting one held in Mary's mouth.

She wants to cut targets, too. Anthony and Mary cut targets simultaneously.

What's this? Turnabout is fair play? As a test of their aim and concentration, Anthony and Mary cut two whip targets simultaneously, working the whip with the right hand and holding targets for the other with the left hand. One target is cut with an upward vertical, then the second is cut with a vertical gypsy crack.

To demonstrate how safe Anthony is, he walks all the way up to Mary cracking a whip in each hand. He takes advantage of the opportunity to steal a kiss from her, and she shows her appreciation for his taking this liberty in public.

Anthony & Mary prep their back crack Mary throws reverse horizontal crack

Anthony and Mary follow the targets and body wraps with the "Toowomba Tango," a synchronized series of whip cracks. The dance starts with a prep for a backward crack to the audience, and includes verticals, horizontals, diagonals, whip wraps and multiple crack figures on both sides of the body.

Gee, you think with those smiles they might be enjoying this dance? The synchronized whip routine is always a crowd-pleaser, as Anthony and Mary demonstrate an impressive series of different whip throws, moving the whip around the body, and finishing with a flourish and a bow before running out of the arena.
